The Summer Academy of Liberal Policies took place in the town of Lukovit in the period 20-22 of July. The event was organized by the Youth Movement for Rights and Freedoms in cooperation with the Liberal Integration Foundation and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Forty-four young people, members and sympathizers of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms from across the country participated in another successful project of the Youth MRF. During the academy the participants were trained on various topics.
The academy started on Thursday and was opened by the president of YMRF and MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk. Welcome speeches were made by the following people: Sergui Boghan- a member of the European Liberal Youth Bureau (LYMEC), Mr. Jeyhan Ibryamov – member of Parliament and Suray Velieva – regional chairperson of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms of Lovech. The first day of the academy continued with a lecture given by Petya Djulgerova – Project Coordinator at Friedrich Naumann Foundation on “Basic Ideological Trends in Democratic Governance”. Later, the participants held a discussion with Ilhan Kuychyuk and Ceyhan Ibryamov on “Current challenges for a united Europe. Populism vs. Liberalism. ” Also, young people had the opportunity to learn more about the proceedings of the Liberal Integration Foundation, presented by Birshen Ibryamova. After the end of the first day, the participants were divided into groups and had the opportunity to present their regions.
On the second day of the academy the participants met with Radoslav Revanski – mayor of the municipality of Belitsa, with whom they spoke about the local government. The next topic of the academy was “Social Networks and Public Communications”, with Nia Kotzeva and Velislava Krusteva – MP and MRF’s long-standing PR. Later, young people met with MRF Chairman Mustafa Karadayi, with whom they held a conversation about young people in politics. The participants were very active and asked many questions to the MRF chairman.
On the last day of the Academy, youth members of MRF met with the Chair of the Committee on Regional Development in the European Parliament, MEP and member of the Board of Directors of the Liberal Integration Foundation Iskra Mihaylova. Together with her the participants had the opportunity to discuss the future of Europe.
